Landscape of Boundaries

Productive Exchange and Stubborn Indifference

The topographical advantage of overlooking the surroundings is maximized to create an external space with the character of an observatory, which is utilized as an art exhibition space.
Terraced masses, harmoniously arranged along the slope, are used as studios for resident artists, while a dedicated exhibition space—housing the crystallized outcomes of artistic thinking—is prominently positioned as a symbolic focal point.
By utilizing the level differences of the site, the external space expands naturally.

The site is accessible by vehicle from the northwest via Wangsani-ro, with the Seohaerang Trail passing through it. Surrounded by forest to the north and farmland to the south, it retains the landscape of its former use as a school, with diverse mature trees along its boundaries.
Oriented north–south, the site sits at the edge of a hillside, sloping gently southward with an approximate 4-meter level difference. Open on all sides, it offers expansive views toward Mangmi Mountain to the north, the coastal garden to the west, and Jungwang-ri to the southeast.

The building is positioned to preserve as many existing trees of diverse species as possible. These trees offer changing seasonal landscapes and sustain the natural character of the site.
Public exhibition areas for visitors and private studio spaces for artists are arranged in a gradual, stepwise sequence, utilizing the site’s level differences.
